The Power of Images

As a species, humans are visual beings. Pictures are said to be worth a thousand words. Artists and Cartoonists use images to convey meaning in powerful ways. Check out the following from Polish Cartoonist Pawel Kuczynski. He specialises in images that make you think about the world we live in. Pick the one that moves you most, describe it and then tell us what it means to you in your own words.

  1. The second picture shows a guy using the Facebook logo as a way to look through the wall. To me, it means that Facebook is a strategy to invade someone's privacy. People can access your profile in order to find some information against you. You never know who is stalking you online on social media accounts.

  2. The second image shows a man looking through the wall using the Facebook logo. I think this image symbolizes that people today are hiding behind a computer screen on social media accounts. Instead of going outside, the man is using facebook as a way to find out what is going on in the world.

  3. The first image moved me a lot. It shows a construction worker sawing through paint brushes symbolizing trees. Attached to the saw was a computer mouse. To me, this symbolizes that a lot of things are being done through computers nowadays. Things such as artwork is now being made through a computer screen instead of using a paintbrush, paint, and some paper. Although computers have brought many new inventions and extraordinary aspects to the world, this does not mean original ways of designing art should be tampered with.

  4. The second image impacted me most. A man is indoors, but looking outdoors with a telescope made to look like the Facebook logo. This symbolizes how easy it is to invade one's privacy. With social media sites, people do not have to leave their houses to be updated on what is going on around them, and this also means that it is easy to snoop around someone's personal life, which is an invasion of privacy.

  5. The cartoon that moved me the most was the first one. It represents how technology is cutting down on normal ideas of creativity, like painting. However, technology can also enrich creativity, and create a new way of doing things, like programming on a computer.

  6. The third picture really had an impact on me. It shows a picture of a butcher with a bloody knife and apron in his hand petting a cat. There are other animals such as a cow and a pig that are looking at the butcher. To me, this shows that we shouldn"t kill as many animals that we do now.

  7. I have seen these on instagram and other social media and they are true. Most of us don't realize it but we are on computers and other devices a lot. The truth is that we are losing touch wit our inner artist. We program and ect, but we don't really draw or go out any more. And we don't appreciate what we do have. The pictures hove show that.

  8. The first picture moved me the most. It showed a man that was connected to a mouse and was cutting down paintbrushes that represented trees. This shows that technology has taken away from many art forms and is slowly taking over our lives. It shows how technology is stripping away creative ideas.

  9. All of the picture are moving, but the first one moved me the most. There is a man that is cutting down paintbrushes with a computer mouse. In other words, the picture is describing how technology is removing creativity. Modern day entertainment is normally watching television or using your phone instead of doing something creative or something that doesn't include technology.

  10. The picture that moved me the most is the second one. It shows a man looking outside through a Facebook logo. This really explains todays society because everyone is living on their phones. Not a lot of people go outside and look at the real world through their own eyes. They just perceive the world through a computer screen.

  11. The picture that moved me the most is the second one. It shows a man indoors, looking outside through a facebook logo. When I first saw it, I thought of it as how easy it is to invade someone's privacy because everyone posts everything of their life on social media. When I thought a bit more about it, I also realized that this is everyone looking onto everyone's life, mostly the celebrities. We believe that we cannot do the things they do and focus on them because we don't want to go out. We are basing our lives on the lives of others instead of enjoying and living our own life the way we wish.

  12. The picture that moved me the most was the second one. It shows a man looking through a facebook logo at the outside world. When I saw this image I thought about all the times I was talking to friends online instead of going out and actually seeing them. This photo explains how society is now a days. We are all always on our cellphones looking at the world through a screen instead of seeing it with just our eyes.

  15. The one that speaks to me the most is the first picture because to me it represents how the internet and prevents people to be creative and use their imagination. If all you do is watch someone else's ideas, than you won't think of any of your own original ideas.

  16. I chose the second picture from the top. This shows a man looking outside from a closed off room through a telescope representing the Facebook symbol. I chose this image because many of us are spending more time on the internet looking at other people's lives and adventures when we could be going out and making out own memories and doing the same things maybe even things better. As you can also see is the door is a crack open, showing that the man in the picture can go ahead and do that and go out there as well, but is choosing not to and is staying cooped up inside being filled with the short term enjoyment of pretending to be in their shoes.
